Countryside

Want a break from the beach? Head inland and enjoy many of the fascinating attractions located in Jersey's inner core such as the Jersey's famous zoo or the Hamptonne Country Life Museum. Alternatively wile away an afternoon at Jersey Pottery, pamaper yourself at Jersey pearl or La Mare Vineyards. For some colourful history visit the Battle of Flowers Museum. If it's wet, go underground and visit the highly informative exhibition interpreting the German Occupation which is located at the German Undergroud Hospital. Inland there are dense wooded valleys, lush leafy lanes and heather-framed pathways leading down to deserted coves. Unspoilt doesn’t begin to describe it. The rich soil supports a thriving farming community, that, in addition to rearing the famous Jersey cow, also produce a wide range of vegetable produce. A network of Green Lanes, which give pedestrians precedence over the car, keeps country life unhurried and leisurely pace. The scheme is envied the world over. Hedgerows and coastal dunes are protected and are home to varieties of rare wild flowers and butterflies.

A year-round programme of free walks and cycle rides, led by qualified guides, enables visitors to appreciate the beauty of Jersey’s countryside through all its changing seasons.
