Walk 7 - Queens Valley Reservoir - Grouville
Attractions
Grouville

This reservoir was created only recently, hut already wildlife is taking over. As the woodlands mature an abundance of songbirds are taking residence and they are at their vocal best during May and June.

The open water also attracts several species of waterfowl including mallard and tufted duck, coot, moorhen and mute swan.

The scent of wildflowers, sea campion, red campion, foxgloves and honeysuckle - pervade the air in early summer.

Access is easy from the St. Saviour’s Hospital end, but unfortunately only for a short section of the pathway which circles the reservoir, the full distance is about two and a half kilometres. Wild fowl can be observed from and near the car park.

Take the anti-clockwise path and follow it through the trees. There are a couple of gentle inclines but after about 500 metres the slopes become too steep to negotiate safely, the hoggin surface makes it difficult for the helper’s feet to get a purchase. With a minimum of two strong helpers, and plenty of common-sense, it is possible, and very worthwhile, to ‘negotiate the complete walk.
